The BIG day ... 38 Weeks!
It has been a loooonnnggggg wait! To wait till 40 weeks? The answer is a definite NOOOO! So Chris and I decided to do it at week 38th. Moreso, Dr.Delaila consented it and she don't think i can withheld Christian for anothr TWO more weeks (I was already superbly BIG and 'lun chun' at that time lar, and with close to 1cm in dialation?) It was such a relief knowing i can deliver sooner (means NO more backache, NO more sleeping only on 1 side, NO more banging into stuff, NO more 'can't get up form bed on your OWN!, NO more eating like an eating machine ... so worry bout the stretch marks lor) and also ... to see little Christian earlier than anticipated :)
Yup, Chritian was induced just like che-che Kiersten. We were glad to had made that decision though. Can you imagine me at week 38th, still working, going for meetings, driving around (when Chris is stucked in meetings :( ), picking Kiersten from school and all. There was a couple of times ... dealing with contraction while fetching Kiersten and still have to chat and sing with her while trying to huff & puff to relieve the pain! (such multi-tasking needs constant practise ok, NEWbies, DON'T even think of trying!)
On Fri 28.05,09, we were to check-in to the hospital at 930pm (as usual ... LATE!). We reached there at 1130pm. Went straight to the labour suit, got myself changed, & waited for the nurse to start poking me with all kinds of stuff.
Here are the chronological of events ....
1230am - 130am
Gave me an annal jab (a BIG OUCH for that!)This is for me to past motion (so we don't poop while in labour)
Then, how much i had dialated (another OUCH!)
Gave me another jab to induce
2am - 3am
Kept checking on Christians heart beat & my dialation (OUCH! OUCH!)
315am
Nurse asked can i still endure the contraction pain ... of course die die oso said NOOOOO! Get me the epidural ASAP!
Anesthecian came and gave me the 'Magical Epidural'! Well if you asked izit painful? I wouldn't bargain the 5 minutes bareable pain for a lifetime of 12hours (minimum) labour pain lor (i heard the screaming myself in the labour suit of other mums that did not use epidural ok, it was like a slaughter house!)... so YES ... if you ask me ... WOMEN of the entire UNIVERSE, GO FOR IT! (Side effect? NOOOOO lor ... During Kierste's delivery, i had a numbing effect on one of my BIG toe for a few months, but as for this time ... NO effect at all ... this anesthecian is better lor)
415am
Dr.Delaila storm her driving skills and rushed back from JB for my delivery (or else Dr. Ang will have to do it again)
She cut the water bag ... to help increase the speed & size of the dialation. (Thank gudness i already had Epidural on before the cutting of water bag ... i was told this procedure is quite painful though)
430am onwards
Dada & I slept like a baby lor ... (see, i told you bout the Magic Epidural)
Nurse came in to check on the drips, and turn me from side to side (avoid over numbing by the epidural on one side) from time to time.
830am
I was wondering why izit i don't feel any contraction pain .. gonna take longer than we thought? Was about to ask dada to call parents to inform them bout change of time for visiting ... until ... midwives all started coming in with trays of equipments for delivery, getting me ready and taking epidural off me. I was wondering what is going on ...
Then one of the midwives told me i was dialated to 9.5cm d! Can you believe it! This big and i can't feel anything. I had such a gud sleep, was feeling so refreshent up and READY for ALL the PUSHING & More PUSHING!
Thanks to Epidural AGAIN! I had both such wonderful delivery experience!
9am
Dr.Delaila came in and in less than 10minutes ... Christian is OUT!
*Sweat* *Sweat*
930am onwards
Nurses cleaned me up, cleaned Christian up, push him to the nursey ..
12noon
i was already in the regular patient room
3pm
Family members started coming in (we gave the que time for visiting though ... dowan nyone to swamp in with no que :P)
4pm
Me started walking around in the room already!
5pm
A clean & refreshent up Christian is pushed to the room for MILK!
***Notes to ALL .. if you intended to breast-feed, and if you are like me ... need a few good days to get the milk production started ... bring along the milk pump to get the ball rolling first while the nurses help you feed lor ... dun be 'kan-cheong' or feeling lousy if you have no milk yet ... KEEP ON TRYING!
